What Maryam Sanda Did The Moment She Was Sentenced To Death By Hanging
The moment Justice Yusuf Halilu delivered the judgment that sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging on Monday, 27 January 2020, the mother of two, her mother and other relatives not only broke down in tears, Maryam Sanda was said to have rushed out of the courtroom which was next to the dock but she was ordered to be brought back to the courtroom by the judge.
The confusion that resulted from her running out of the court room was said to have led the judge to adjourn the sitting briefly to allow relative calm to be restored.
All plea from her defence lawyer for the judge to have mercy was turned down as the judge said that her conviction was based on Section 221 of the Penal Code which states that whoever kills in cold blood shall die in cold blood and that Maryam is only reaping what she has sown.
It will be recalled that Maryam Sanda stabbed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello fatally in their Abuja home in November 2017. Injuries sustained from the knife wounds led to his death.
