Abba Kyari: Meet Nigeria’s Super Police Officer Who Co-ordinated The Re-arrest Of  Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Wadume

0
On Wednesday, news report filtered out of the re-arrest of notorious kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala who is popularly known as Wadume.

This came two weeks after the unfortunate incident which occurred while he was being ferried to Jalingo, Taraba State by men of the Police Special Forces and IRT members. The IRT policemen had met a brick-wall from soldiers on the highway who reportedly shot and killed three of the policemen and thereafter set the kidnap suspect free, leading to his escape.
The report has it that the fugitive was apprehended at his hideout at Layin Mai Allo Hotoro area of Kano State on Monday night following a massive manhunt launched by the police Special Forces and IRT members in Taraba and the surrounding states.
While much of the focus is on the man in handcuffs, this story is not so much about him and the men of the police force who ensured the re-arrest.
While the job is definitely not that of one man, one man stands tall in the re-arrest operation, and that is Abba Kyar, assistant commissioner of police. He, however, is not to be confused with Chief of Staff to President Buhari also bearing the same name.
A recent BBC Africa Eye documentary titled ‘Inside Nigeria’s Kidnap Crisis’ chronicles the exploits of this police officer.
Abba Kyari was the head of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at the Lagos Police Command and was in 2016 promoted Assistant Commissioner of Police to head the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
His antecedents are actually quite intimidating, mention several high profile police operations and his name is sure to pop up.
His was a prominent name in the arrest of popular billionaire kidnapper, Evans and a host of several others like  Godogodo, China, Nnamdi, Yemi Boss, Abdullahi, Victor, Vampire etc. His name is definitely their nightmare!
