Fuji Stars Storm Oyo Town For K1’s Mayegun Installation As Ayuba, Obesere, Osupa Stay Away

Finally, the much anticipated installation of King of Fuji music, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Anifowoshe Marshal as First Mayegun Of Yoruba Land by His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Atanda Adeyemi III, Iku Baba Yeye, has come and gone but matters arising from some of what should be but never were at the crowd pulling event, have started becoming talking points. And one of such is the failure or refusal of a number of prominent Fuji artistes to show up in solidarity with one of their own.

To start with, the event was slated for a Monday, that is, 13th January, 2020, and a probing check by this writer about the event being put for a Monday, rather than weekend, revealed that part of the reasons it was done was to enable all Fuji artistes, especially, the very prominent ones to have the luxury of time to attend the event en mass. Because it would be extremely unlikely for an artiste to have a show engagement somewhere else on a Monday. But did that achieve the purpose through and through? No!
However, it did achieve the purpose substantially as higher percentage, say about 90% of prominent Fuji artistes showed up in solidarity with K1. And that included: Sir Shina Akanni, Alhaji Rashidi Ayinde, Alhaji (Dr) Sefiu Alao Adekunle, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Alhaji Sulaiman Alao Malaika, Alhaji Sule Adio Atawewe, Alhaji Taye Currency, Alhaji Ramoni Akanni, Kolade Onanuga and Ayinde Benbela, to mention a few. In fact, majority of them arrived Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, the night before, slept in a hotel, and moved in convoy with K1 to Oyo town for the ceremony.
Meanwhile, some of the prominent Fuji artistes who many would have expected to identify with K1 for getting such a big honour of Mayegun from a widely respected monarch in Yoruba Land, like Alaafin, and bringing Fuji music more into the consciousness of people around the globe considering the media buzz K1’s selection for the position generated, but never showed up at the event included Bonsue Fuji crooner, Adewale Ayuba, Paramount King of Music, Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere (PK1st) and King of Music, Alhaji Saheed Osupa. They stayed away.
While their reasons for missing in action may not be readily known, but this writer can report authoritatively that their absence was conspicuously noticed and discussed in hush tones by some of the attendees of the event that shook the whole of Oyo town to its foundation. And now, that K1 has been installed the Mayegun of Yoruba Land, which according to him, when making his appreciation remarks, bestowed on him the responsibility of ensuring peace and tranquility exist amongst the people, it is expected he would reach out to the foregoing artistes and make peace with them, in case their reasons for not showing up bordered on grudges with him.
Interestingly, in the course of his remarks also, K1 publicly apologised to everyone he might have offended at one point or the other as no man is perfect, and it is expected that same apology will resonate with any Fuji artiste still bearing grudges with him.
