The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari and National Assembly to implement state police for the protection of the citizens.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa reiterated the need for state police during plenary on Tuesday.
According to him, it gladdens my heart when I read in the news that former president Olusegun Obasanjo joined others to call for the creation of state police. This showed that this House of Assembly is on the right path.
The Speaker said that the House called for the creation of state police for the protection of the citizens of the state, saying that the community police that was recently inaugurated in some states was not enough.
“What we are asking for is state police and we have a constitution that supports federalism. This House again called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to ensure the creation of state police.
Obasa therefore directed the Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko to inform the President of their resolution.
