Lagos Lawmaker, Idimogu Takes Support For Tinubu’s Ambition To Igbo Day Celebration
Hundreds of Ndigbos in Lagos State on Saturday October 30, marked the 2021 Igbo Day to promote and preserve cultural beliefs of people from the South-Eastern Nigeria.
The event held at Ejigbo Mini Stadium in Oshodi-Isolo area of Lagos brought together Igbos in Ejigbo Local Council Development Areas and some other areas of the state.
Apart from various cultural displays and launching of 2022 Calendar, the event featured presentation of meritorious awards, special recognition to deserving sons and daughters of Ndigbo.
In his remark, Hon. (Dr.) Jude Idimogu, member representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos Assembly said that Igbos residing in Ejigbo LCDA had set aside the day as “Igbo Day” to celebrate themselves and their culture.
Idimogu stated that Igbos remain one big family that they deserved to be recognised and celebrated.
The lawmaker, who flaunted banners and T-Shirts of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said that his prayer for Tinubu was to be the next Nigeria president.
He said that Tinubu deserved the office having worked for the nation and that he was intelligent and full of progressive developmental ideas to lead the country.
Idimogu, who urged Ndigbos to support Tinubu, said that the former Lagos State governor remained a detribalised Nigerian.
Speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Celestine Chukwunenye said that Igbo tribe is rich in culture and traditions which should not be allowed to die.
“This is a very wonderful occasion, very delightful, beautiful and rich in Igbo culture and traditions.
“It is something I think should be encouraged, and all cultures and traditions in Nigeria should from time to time, set out a day where they can promote their own cultures for the sake of their children, themselves and future.
“We need this so that we don’t end up losing our cultures to the over-bearing influence of foreign languages and traditions.
“Every effort must be seen to promote the culture, language, customs and traditions of the Igbos. Chukwunenye, who is also the Chief Medical Director, Optimal Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, said.
The Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon. Bello Monsuru , who congratulated the Ndigbos for the maiden edition of the cultural day, said that coming together of all Ndigbos for the celebration showed that Nigeria could still be a better place for all.
He urged all the leaders of Igbo different fora to put aside all selfish and personal interests and elevate the interest of the nation.
According to him, celebrating cultural heritages has a lot of merits and it is a way of diversifying economy through cultural and tourism.
Speaking at the Lagos State Igbo Community Centre, the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos State, Dr. Christian Nwachukwu thanked the Igbos for their support and urged them to further embrace unity for the development of the state, Igboland and the country generally.
Nwachukwu expressed delight that the Igbos in Lagos came together to celebrate, adding that it was a good way to promote the culture and heritage of the people of the South East.
The Eze Ndigbo, who noted that the cultural festival was to unite the Igbos in the state and in the diaspora, called for peace among the youths from Igbo extraction.
The event featured several cultural dances, masquerade display, breaking of kolanuts, parades and others.
