The recent Offa banks robbery has taken a new dimension as the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has been invited for questioning.
Dr. Saraki has been indicted by five suspects arrested in connection with the robbery.
Police said five gang leaders indicted Saraki.
They had confessed that they were political thugs of the Senate President and the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, the spokesman for the police said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the Offa bank robbery led to the death of 33 persons, including some pregnant women and nice police officers.
“The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki is being invited by the Nigeria Police Force to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja to answer to the allegations levelled against him from the confessions of the Five (5) Gang Leaders and some of the other 17 suspects arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of 33 innocent persons which includes some pregnant women and nine Police personnel,” the police statement read.
After the robbery, the image of a former police officer spread online.
He was said to be part of the gang that carted away millions of Naira from four banks robbed on the same day and at the same time.
It is not clear if Governor Ahmed was also invited for questioning.
