Ex-governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has reportedly given an insight about his experience in the prison.Recall that a Lagos Federal High Court sentenced him to imprisonment for 12 years over a massive N7.65 billion fraud committed during his reign as governor between 1999 and 2007. Kalu became the governor of south eastern state of Abia before he was 40 and went on to rule the state for 8 years.
Orji Uzor Kalu has reportedly told his prison visitor of how sad that he was now eating in prison. According to press report, the reality of the new condition in prison didn’t dawn on Kalu till some of his business and political associates decided to pay him visit him in the prison. Only a few days after he began his stay in prison, a business associate who came to the prison yard to see Kalu on a sympathy visit. The associate was reported be have expressed shock when he saw the pitiable condition of by former governor and current senator. According to the report, Kalu was found wearing a pair of bathroom slippers.
“See me now eating in the prison,” a sad Kalu reportedly told his prison visitor, who found it hard to the console him due to shock.
A former governor colleague of Kalu, who also spent some time in prison, was reported to have also visited him. The flamboyant ex-governor was said to have advised him to be strong and understand that his current travails is a phase of life he would soon get over.
