Perhaps his background as a Mass Communications graduate, young and dynamic SSG as he’s fondly called met with Ex Super Eagles’ star, Femi Opabunmi and ensued between them is the very interesting interview below..Enjoy.

Femi Opabunmi: Good afternoon sir

SSG: You’re welcome sir

Femi Opabunmi: it’s nice to meet you sir

SSG: it’s my pleasure having you here.

SSG: Can you tell me about yourself?

Femi Opabunmi: I’m Femi Opabunmi who hails from Iwo, Osun State but I was born and brought up in Lagos & Ibadan.

SSG: where do you started your football carrier?

Femi Opbaunmi: I started from my tender age but I was dicovered through my principal @ Methodist High school, Ibadan. From there I joined shootings stars sports club feeders team before i was promoted to the main team.

SSG: who connected you with the then Golden Eaglets?

Femi Opabunmi: I was connected through the help of God and Baba Adegboye Onigbinde who recommended me to late coach Musa Abdulahi of blessed memory

SSG: How did you make it to 2002 Korea / Japan World Cup?

Femi Opabunmi: like I’ve said, Baba Adegboye Onigbinde was a friend to my late father who was the Assistant Commisioner of Police [ACP] before his demise.

My performance @ the U-17 [Trinidad & Tobago 2001] gave me the opportunity to make the final squad to the 2002 World Cup.

SSG: how did you feel when you played against England where the likes of David Beckham, Michael Own, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole & Steven Gerrard & co.?

Femi Opabunmi: laughs, I’m same professional footballer with them so nothing to scare about.

SSG: After 2002 World Cup, what happened?

Femi Opabunmi,  I got a contract with FC Grasshopper of Switzerland and from there I moved to Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel before heading to FC Niort of France in the 2nd division

SSG: when did the eye problem started?

Femi Opabunmi: it all started when I was in training with my mates that very morning and I discovered that something entered my right eye, immidiately I took permission from my coach and I went straight to the hospital which I was told that I’ll udergo a surgery.

I did it but it didn’t improve before I came to Nigeria to seek for traditional treatments which has made the issue complicated for me.

SSG: what’s the next step now?

Femi Opabunmi: I hold on unto God and humanity as well as you sir

SSG: I will try all my possible best to make sure you regain your sight!

Femi Opabunmi: I’ll be glad sir

SSG: can you still play football when you regain your sight

Femi Opabunmi: yes, yes, yes, why not?…..I’ll

SSG: where do you reside in Ibadan?

Femi Opabunmi: I lives in Sanyo area in my own personal house that God built for me.

SSG: hope to see you back on the field of play soonest!

Femi Opabunmi: Amen sir…God bless you sir.
