Following his confirmation as the authenticated candidate of APC for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, youths of the senaorial Zone, under the aegis of Odimma Anambra North Youths Initiatives, ODIANYI, yesterday, erupted in jubilation following Tuesday’s news reports that the National Working Committee of the APC had confirmed Dr. Tony Nwoye as the party’s candidate.
Tony Nwoye The youths had at a town hall meeting on Monday at Tourist Garden, Otuocha, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, expressed concern over the dithering procrastination to confirm Nwoye as the party’s candidate. The mood of the youths, however, took a pleasant turn yesterday as newspaper reports confirmed the NWC’s decision to discard the petition filed by Senator Andy Uba against Nwoye’s emergence.
Speaking yesterday with Vanguard in an interview, leader of ODIANYI, Comrade Tony Obiora Okafor, said that the youths in Anambra North went into jubilation on hearing and reading that Dr Nwoye has been cleared by APC for the election. According to the ODIANYI leader, it is not yet Uhuru, we are aware that Dr Nwoye’s detractors will come up with another allegation, and all these are aimed to distract him from preparing and facing his campaign for the election, “but we are assuring him of our support and urge him to be focused, there is the hand of God in his emergence as the APC candidate.” While thanking the leadership of APC for being firm in their decision in spite of all manipulations to change Dr. Nwoye, he reminded the party that they should not be surprised to get more petitions and complaints against Dr. Nwoye by the people they described as failed politicians who have nothing to offer the state.
Nwoye was born to the family of chief and Mrs. Lawrence Nwoye of Offianta Nsugbe on 13 September 1974. He went to Metropolitan Secondary School, Onitsha for his secondary education from where he proceeded to study medicine in the University of Nigeria college of medicine and later furthered his knowledge of medicine at the Ebonyi state University and sworn in as a medical doctor.
Nwoye started his political career as medical student where he functioned in different capacity as a leader. He was noted to having fought for student unionism. later became the first medical student to become the speaker of the student union house of representative in the university of Nigeria. He received an award from the then Vice Chancellor, Prof Ginigeme Mbanefo, for the role he played in fighting cultism in the school. He became the national president of
 in December 2003 He arose to state power as Assistant Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP in 2005 and by 2006 at the age of 31, he became the Chairman of the State Executive Committee of the Anambra State PDP making him the youngest State Chairman of a major political party in the entire nation. In 2014 he unsuccessfully contested for Anambra state election under PDP
