A renowned poet and he winner of the 2017 NLNG Prize for Literature Ikeogu Oke died in Abuja on Saturday at the age of 51.
He died at the National Hospital Abuja after a protracted illness.
He has written many books, some of which include ‘In the Wings of Waiting’, Salutes Without Guns, The Lion and the Monkey, The Tortoise and The Princess amongst others.
His book, The Heresiad, helped him win the highly coveted NLNG Prize for Literature in 2017.
He was presented with a cheque of $100,000 (N37m) by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited.
His poems and other writings have appeared in journals, anthologies and other publications worldwide.
He has performed his poems at various fora in Nigeria, South Africa and the United States.
